Great Barrier Island Surfing

Great Barrier Island is a world-famous surfing destination because of the Pacific swells on the east coast sweeping onto pristine white sand beaches. The most popular beaches are Whangapoua, Medlands and Awana. Surfing on Great Barrier Island is also a unique experience because you will have little-to-no competition for waves on the frequently deserted beaches. Please do be careful as depending on the swell, waves can peak at over 2 metres.
